The idea was to build a team of senior and junior students who would specialize in designing SAE and other international competition level all terrain vehicles. A team which can manage on its own a complete ATV design projects and self finance them.

Manipal institute of technology - (MIT) in the picturesque Western Ghat town of Manipal in south coastal Karnataka, is the home of TEAM MANIPAL RACING or TMR as it is popularly known all over the university town.
TEAM MANIPAL RACING was formed in August 2008 by a group of vehicle enthusiast MIT students. The main area of interest behind it’s birth was the development of an all terrain vehicle (ATV) design and off road racing, something which exemplifies the youthful spirit of taking risks and challenges and the thrill to walk the untrodden path.
The SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) organised event, BAJA USA gave the students the perfect platform to apply their engineering knowledge in a real world environment. Companies like HONDA, TOYOTA, POLARIS, recruits participants from outstanding teams in the competition.
It started off with a 9-member team who worked 6 months to build the first ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) from MANIPAL UNIVERSITY. Today the team comprises of 21 students divided into 6 specialised departments comprising of suspension, steering, transmission, chassis, brakes and tires and management. In 2 successive years of running, the team has participated in SAE BAJA USA for two successive years:
Their performance in SAE BAJA has consistently been improving since the inception of the team. They have also consistently been the best Indian team participating in SAE BAJA International events.
Presently, the 2011-2012 team is geared up to take upon the upcoming challenges. A group of fresh brains was chosen and the designing process for the 2011-2012 season was underway. After a brain storming designing phase, the manufacturing of the ATV will start and the student-built off road racing car will showcase its performance in BAJA SAE India in January 2012 and subsequently in the U.S. in June 2012.
The team is hoping for the best and promises to deliver as per potential and p erform well in its future endeavours.
The team thanks its faculty advisor Mr.B Rammohan Pai for his unconditional support and guidance without whom this project would never have been possible and also Manipal Institute of Technology for helping them throughout the course of the project.
